3 Reasons to Face the New Year Without Fear

With a new year comes new challenges, new opportunities, new goals to achieve and new heights to reach. But so many new beginnings often come with fear.

Navigating the unknown can be scary, but you can make a conscious effort to combat fear with faith and a heart full of gusto. Below are three reminders to help you face 2019 fearlessly:

He will not abandon you.

As you approach new experiences, you must remember that He will never leave you. You may be afraid and apprehensive, but He will not abandon you, and you will never face any situation alone. Deuteronomy 31:8 says this:

“The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.”

You don’t have to walk into 2019 alone. Breathe a sigh a relief, knowing that Christ will surround you and meet your deepest desires.

He will protect you.

The truth is, no one knows what lies ahead. Your year could be fantastic or tumultuous or both.

Though you can’t know what’s to come, you can find comfort in the fact that wherever you go, God is there to protect you. You may not be able to feel His presence physically, but He is with you, working everything out for the greater good. 2 Thessalonians 3:3 makes this promise:

“But the Lord is faithful, and he will strengthen you and protect you from the evil one.”

Know God, and know peace.

Yes, Jesus protects you, and no, He will not abandon you. However, knowing God does not ensure a perfect year or a perfect life. Life’s ups and downs are unpredictable.

God encourages His children to be content with what they already have. Accepting Christ into your life is the ultimate source of wealth. Philippians 3:8 confirms this:

“What is more, I consider everything a loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them garbage, that I may gain Christ.”

In 2018, I joyfully watched my son take his first steps, and I humbly witnessed my daughter excel in a new school in a foreign country. But I also endured the passing of a close family friend, which resulted in a painful grieving process. Needless to say, 2019 will inevitably hold similar peaks and valleys. But I throw my fear to the wind, and I invite God into my heart more than ever, because I know I can face the day as long as He is by my side. I invite you to do the same.
