Quick and Easy Summer Makeup Looks

These must-haves will keep you glowing all summer long.

After swiping a second coat of mascara on my lashes, blending foundation on my face and dabbing a little pink gloss to my lips, I was ready for a day at the pool! While I am a huge supporter of the makeup-free movement – you do you, girl! – I personally love wearing makeup. It’s one of those things my husband still doesn’t understand, but he’s (finally) come to accept about me.

Now that I’m a mom, I no longer have the time or energy to make my face Sunday-morning ready before going to the beach (yes, I have done this before). That’s why I love stocking up on a few basic, multi-purpose cosmetics for the season. Now is not the time for six-step eyeshadows or complicated Youtube beauty tutorials – follow these tips to simplify your summer beauty routine so you can get in the water faster!

Use CC Cream With Sunscreen Instead of Your Regular Foundation

There’s no point in applying primer and full-coverage foundation, just to get outside and cover your face in SPF50. Use a CC Cream instead, which is a tinted, hydrating moisturizer that color corrects your skin and is made with a built-in sunscreen. Mary Kay CC Cream Sunscreen ($22) is made for all skin types (including sensitive skin), it has a broad-spectrum SPF 15 and it also works to brighten, reduce redness and make your skin silky smooth. Or, get more protection with the It Cosmetics CC Cream ($39 from Sephora), which is made with an SPF 50+ sunscreen. This full-coverage foundation comes in 12 different shades and works to hydrate, brighten, moisturize and cover imperfections at the same time. With this on, you’ll forget you aren’t wearing your normal foundation!

Stick with Multi-Purpose Blush and Eyeshadow

Add a little shimmer to your face with multi-purpose blush and eyeshadow. It’s easy to use – literally just swipe on your eyelids and cheekbones – and convenient to pack for quick touch-ups. Bite Beauty’s Multistick ($24 at Sephora) is a silicone- and petrochemical-free stick that glides over your skin like a cream, but it looks like a powder. Choose from a variety of shades to suit your mood (there are 19 unique colors) – my favorite is the soft lilac beige, perfect for a pop of color that’s not too bright. For a more shimmery effect, go with the Supergoop! Shimmershade Illuminating Cream Eyeshadow ($24), which is free of sulfates, parabens and other harsh chemicals. This cream eyeshadow is formulated with SPF 30 to protect your delicate eye-area skin from the sun, flower extracts for antioxidant protection and a sparkly gold, tan or dark brown color to make your eyes and cheeks glow.

Finish With Your Favorite Product

No woman will feel complete without using her favorite product. For me, it’s mascara. My naturally light lashes are naked without black mascara coating them. For the summertime, go with something waterproof, like the Mac Cosmetics Up for Everything Lash Mascara ($24), which works to boost and curl lashes for 24-hours. It is also sweat- and humidity-resistant, so it will keep your lashes thick and beautiful no matter what the weather is outside. If lipstick is your thing, choose something moisturizing and long-lasting – like the Burt’s Bees Moisturizing Liquid Lipstick ($2.49 from Ulta). This natural makeup is made with apricot and babassu oil, shea butter and fatty acids to deliver irresistibly smooth lips all day long. Not to mention, the intense wine red or sandy tan color will look gorgeous from the pool to the after-party!

The most important thing to remember: don’t let your makeup keep you from having fun this summer. If it’s less stressful to go barefaced, do it! If you do opt for makeup, enjoy yourself, put your face underwater and don’t be afraid to sweat a little – it’s easy to reapply afterwards!
