The Power of Love through Prayer
“I have come to know that God can smooth my path, calm the storms, keep me and all I care about safe, and even make my way simple when I ask Him to carry the complexities of life for me. But these things don’t just happen. Not without prayer.” This is an excerpt from the book, The Power of a Praying Woman by Stormie Omartian. In this book, the author explains that, in the midst of our everyday busy lives, it is important to pray, developing a prayer relationship between yourself and God. We must never become too busy to extend an invitation for God into our lives.
Yes, we all have lives that involve busy, sometimes hectic, schedules. We are mothers, wives, daughters, sisters, co-workers, aunts, and cousins—the many hats that women wear on a daily basis can be quite overwhelming. Through it all, both the good and the bad, it is essential that we draw closer to God—to trust Him with the concerns of your heart and discover the awesome power that prayer will release in your life.
It’s easy to get bogged down by the cares of the world and those around us. Many of us have developed prayer lives that are filled with praying for others and their needs. While that’s definitely a good thing, it’s vital that you find time to pray for yourself. We pray for our husbands, our children, friends, acquaintances, those we do not know, and various circumstances. Find time to pray for you! The beauty of prayer is that God wants to hear from you and your requests for your life. No matter how big or small the request, rest assured that He is working on your behalf, continually showing His love for you. God can, and He will, smooth your path and encourage you to believe in the impossible.
Prayer isn’t just something you do for show—it’s a genuine time for you to communicate with your Father and express your trust in Him. The words you say matter and should be from the heart—and the more time you spend with Him, the easier it will be to talk with Him comfortably. Your prayer time not only helps you grow in your relationship with God, but it also trickles over into the rest of your life in the way you love others and the way you live out your faith.
As the month of February signifies expressing “love” to those closest to you, choose to love yourself each and every day. Devote quiet time to get to know God and His endless love for you. Ask God to draw you into a closer walk with Him. Effective prayer will not only illuminate your mind, body, and spirit, but it will also provide you with God’s love and purpose for your life.
