Beauty, Babies, and Behind Bars

A week of new arrivals in Hollywood, the entertainment world welcomed new babies, new award winners, and new television previews.

One of the biggest stories this week was when People Magazine released its 25th annual Most Beautiful cover issue. Recent Oscar winner and Kenyan beauty Lupita Nyong’o graces the cover as the “Most Beautiful Person for 2014,” joining several other celebrities including Beyonce, Julia Roberts and Gwyneth Paltrow. Success seems to trail close to this fashionable star. Earlier this year, Nyong’o won the Oscar for best supporting actress for her role in 12 Years a Slave and was also named the new face of Lancôme cosmetics, becoming their first black ambassador.

Actress Olivia Wilde and fiancé Jason Sudeikis also had a big week, welcoming a baby boy to the family. The excited new mom shared a picture of herself and her newborn with Twitter followers and fans. “Ladies and gentlemen, Otis Alexander Sudeikis has LEFT the building! (I’m the building!),” read the photo’s caption. Wilde and Sudeikis welcomed baby Otis on April 20. The two have been engaged since last year.

Fans of Netflix’s original show, “Orange is the New Black,” rejoiced last week when the show’s producers released the official trailer for its second season. This week, the ladies of Litchfield hold the cover of Entertainment Weekly’s May issue just in time for the show’s return this June. In the magazine, “OITNB” creator Jenji Kohan talks about the new season, revealing details about the episodes to come. “Orange is the New Black” follows Piper Chapman, a woman in her thirties set to spend 15 months in prison after being convicted for transporting drug money. Along the way, Piper encounters various women of all shapes, sizes and colors, including her drug-dealing girlfriend who ratted her out to the police. The show’s first season aired July of 2013 and is currently available for streaming on Netflix.

Director Peter Jackson made a bold move this week, announcing on his Facebook page that he would be renaming the third film in his Hobbit trilogy. The final installment now titled The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies is set to hit the big screen in December.

Following the series finale of its parent show, creators of the unnamed spin-off of the wildly popular “How I Met Your Mother” announced that sweetheart Meg Ryan would be joining the cast as the voice of “future Sally.” Ryan joins actress Greta Gerwig, who is already set to star in the new sitcom.

HBO enthusiasts may have a new outlet to watch all of their favorite series. Amazon announced earlier this week that it has made a licensing agreement with HBO, allowing some of their shows to be made available to stream via Amazon Prime Instant Video. While the agreement would add some hits such as “The Sopranos,” “Big Love,” and early seasons of “True Blood,” “Game of Thrones” die-hards will be out of luck, as recent HBO hits will not be available for streaming.
