A Week of Winners

Singers, dancers, and beauties! Oh, my! It seemed like everyone in Hollywood was winning this week. First up, Candice Swanepoel. the Victoria’s Secret model must certainly have felt on top of the world this week, being named number one on Maxim magazine’s annual Hot 100 list. The 25-year-old beat out stars such as Jennifer Lawrence, Zooey Deschanel, Scarlett Johansson, and fellow Angel, Alessandra Ambrosio for the coveted title. As the new number one, Swanepoel takes over the throne from Miley Cyrus, who held the top spot for 2013. Creative director, Paul Martinez said Swanepoel “is the ideal embodiment for of the new Maxim brand,” not only for her “flawless beauty and effortless grace,” but also for “her business acumen.” As one of the world’s top supermodels, Swanepoel has become a global brand and seems to radiate success.

Reality competition favorites, “American Idol,” “The Voice,” and “Dancing With the Stars,” also offered up some winners this week. Wednesday’s “American Idol” finale crowned finalist Caleb Johnson as the season’s winner. On top of the title, Johnson’s winnings included a cash prize, a record deal, and a Ford Mustang. The other popular vocal competition show, “The Voice,” crowned Josh Kaufman as their winner. Over the course of season six, Kaufman had been coached by R&B artist, Usher. Last, but certainly not least, “Dancing With the Stars” crowned Meryl Davis and her professional partner, Maksim Chmerkovskiy as their season 18 champions. The Olympic gold medalist’s skills on the ice must have transferred to the ballroom. Judge Carrie Ann Inaba said that Meryl and Maks were the best part of the season. Congrats to all of the winners!

Lifetime and Whitney Houston fans got a dose of those winners’ luck this week. It was announced that Lifetime would be making a film about the late singer. Oscar nominee Angela Bassett is set to make her directorial debut with Whitney Houston (working title), telling the story of Houston’s relationship with Bobby Brown. The film will premiere in 2015 and will be produced by Larry Sanitsky and written by Shem Bitterman.

Another winner in Hollywood, Kierra Sheard, star of BET’s “The Sheards” and judge on BET’s “Sunday Best” launched the first single, titled 2nd Win, from her highly anticipated album, Graceland. Sheard taps into her personal side for the album, sharing her ongoing inner battle between self-conviction and condemnation. Graceland hit I-Tunes on the 19th. Head on over and pick up your copy now! Fans will be able to listen to selected songs from the album and participate in a live Q&A with Sheard.
