Who is your biggest inspiration?

It's hard to choose just one person. There have been so many people who have inspired me along my journey, but if I were to just pick one person I’m currently inspired by daily is Sara Blakely, founder of Spanx. Her authentic energy and determination to turn her ideas into reality has been a huge inspiration on my entrepreneurial journey. (Also, the fact that she still owns 100% of her company!)

What do you enjoy most about what you do?

Inspiring people as a public speaker! Anytime I’m on stage I get this rush that I don't get anywhere else, it's amazing! It's really an amazing feeling to be able to share your experiences and story vulnerably in front of people and then have them come up to you afterwards telling you how much your words impacted their life.

Have did you discover your calling/purpose? How did realize that you are doing what you were meant to do?

When a passion wakes you up in the morning and keeps you up at night... when it's part of your every thought, your entire being, you know it's there for a reason. There wasn't one point in my life that was an "aha moment" to let me know this is what I should be doing, it's been a journey of experiences and things that have led me to know confidently I'm meant to do this. You have to be open to the omens that surround you.

What experience(s) have you overcome that you feel that could have destroyed you, but instead, you were elevated because you survived it?

A few months before college graduation, when I was 21 years old, I got really sick out of nowhere. My body went into septic shock and I was induced into a medical coma given a 1% chance of living. This not only changed my entire life, but it also led to a number of health obstacles later being diagnosed with a chronic autoimmune disease. I spent 4 years trying to heal my body.

I had to quit my dream job in NYC which at the time was devastating and I just felt like all of my dreams were taken from me at the beginning of my professional life. It was extremely hard to overcome these ongoing obstacles, but these obstacles have also led me to where I am now and led me to become who I am now.

What prompted your transition from your previous job/career/venture into what you are currently doing? How did you decide that you were ready to take a leap of faith to change your path?

After college, I had two jobs before I went full-time with my business. The first was at InStyle Magazine and the next was for a digital marketing company. Both were great experiences, but I knew it wasn't where I wanted to be in the long-run.

The unfortunate circumstances with my health led me to having to quit both jobs but this is what pushed me to work harder to create a successful company that can work around my health issues with my autoimmune disease. Sometimes you have to take the leap even when you think you're not ready, but from my own experiences, I’d say that's the best way to do it.

It would have been very easy to let my circumstance define me, especially because I was in severe pain day in and day out. For 8 months I was too sick to even walk my dog outside and I felt completely isolated from the world. But this led me to sharing my story on social media and later as a public speaker. I now share my story to inspire others that no matter what you are going through, you can still live the life of your dreams. It's not always about overcoming obstacles (since my illness is with me for the rest of my life as there is no cure) but it's about finding the opportunity through the obstacle.

It took me a long time to realize that the light was never at the end of the tunnel, it was within me all along.

What is something that most people do not know about you?

I still struggle with my autoimmune disease and have days where I don't feel well... People think because I run this successful business and am out there doing what I love that my past struggles with my health are in the past, but they aren't. I still live with a chronic illness which can make a lot of days challenging but I work through it. I don't allow my illness to define what I can or cannot do.

Another thing most people don't know about me... I used to be a competitive hip-hop dancer in high school!

What advice would you give to your 20-year-old self?

Consistency= Success! When I was 20 years old I was running my 2nd business already, it was a blog called Hello Perfect. I was jumping from idea to idea trying to get something to work to turn the blog into a profitable business, but I now realize moving from one idea to the next was what was hurting me. It's important to stay consistent and be in it for the long-run. I look back now and wish I stayed consistent with my weekly videos on YouTube... I would have had at least 100K followers by now!

How do you wish for your story/work to impact others? What difference(s) are you striving to make?

I believe our stories have the power to change the world. I work every day to make a difference in at least one person’s life and my hope is that by me sharing vulnerably and authentically, it impacts others to take action on the things they want most. I want more people to believe in themselves, believe in their worth, and understand that no matter what they are going through, they too can turn their ideas into reality.

If you had to choose only (1) word to accurately describe you right now, in this present moment, what would it be?

What is next for you? Are there any projects or additional pertinent projects that you have that you would like to share?

I recently launched a new venture of mine called, Be A Public Speaker©. It's an online educational program teaching passionate entrepreneurs and leaders how to grow their business and brand through public speaking. I built my entire career through speaking and I’ve had thousands of inquiries from people asking how I did it. Now I'm teaching it all in this program because as I mentioned, I believe that when people share their stories and experience we can make a real difference in others’ lives.

Public speaking has afforded me an opportunity to help others increase their impact and their income.

In this program I not only teach people what I learned as a speaker myself but now as a conference organizer who goes through 1,000+ applications per year of speakers, I've learned exactly how to stand out in your pitch to help aspiring speakers get booked. Public speaking not only brought in an additional income stream for me, but it also has allowed me to impact thousands of other people. This new program, will help others explode their impact and income! I've been working on the research for this program for over a year so I'm so excited it's finally launched!
