Blooming with Homegrown Veggies: Getting Ready for Fall
This is the last installment in my series about homegrown vegetables and herbs. Fall is quickly approaching, which is a great starting point for this end. Here is a list of vegetables and herbs you can grow indoors or in fall weather on your patio: • Arugula • Beets and beets greens • Broccoli raab • Cabbage • Chard • Cilantro • Lettuce • Radishes • Spinach • Squash • Turnips
There is a great variety of things you can begin growing now for fall harvest. You’re not limited to my list. Here are a few tips to use before planting.
1. Select varieties that require a shorter number of days to mature and harvest. Don’t be caught planting outdoors and the season changes swiftly. 2. Consult with an organic gardening source or store about safely dealing with plant pests. 3. Prep your soil and select your fertilizer. One last tip: Research ways to store leftovers from your summer veggie and herb harvest.
