Finding Joy in Your Purpose

When you have joy on the inside, it shines forth on the outside.
When you have joy on the inside, it shines forth on the outside.

The joy of the Lord is your strength, and it’s time for you to own it! When you wake up in the morning, do you feel like grabbing the day by the horns and moving forward in what God has purposed you to do? If so, great! But if not, you should—because you were born with a purpose. So find joy in it!

There is no need to drag yourself out of bed, walk slowly to the coffee pot and dread your day. Instead, it’s time to be so excited about what God is going to do through you that you are running to your home office or computer to get started with your to-do list. Remember, Psalm 118:24 says, “This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.”

Find joy in the work that you do. Whether it’s in the workplace, home office or ministry, enjoy the productivity. Every step guided by the Lord makes a difference. Also, explore things that make you light up. If that is researching how to become better at what you do, going to an empowerment conference, or simply sitting down sipping a hot cup of tea or coffee journaling your next move, enjoy that moment.

It’s all a part of the process. Find joy in that. Be comfortable in your own skin. Don’t compare yourself to others and their accomplishments because that can be a joy killer. If you’re a writer, be the best writer that you can be. If you’re a business owner or ministry leader, be the best that you can be. The comparison game destroys confidence and hope and can dampen your faith. Enjoy pursuing who God purposed you to be.

Finally, let your joy be contagious! Be the one who, when you walk into a room, people say, “I’ll have what she’s having!” Bobbie Houston of Hillsong Church wrote a book with this exact same title. Essentially, when others see the joy that you have—whether your conditions are favorable or not—they will feel like they can take on the world, too!

So be who God created you to be. Remember, you were born for this. Find joy in your purpose. It’s time.
