Get into the Rhythm of Your Flow!
Each day seem to disappear faster than the one before, and you’re left with more and more on your to-do list by the time you throw in the towel and fall into bed at night.
You followed all of the time management tips: you made a list, minimized your distractions (as much as possible), chunked your day into more manageable pieces and even rewarded yourself for checking things off---so what happened?
Well, as much as you were orderly and organized in your approach to managing your day, you forgot one key element: considering your rhythm and flow.
Every one of us has a natural rhythm to the way we do things.
This goes beyond simply whether you’re a morning person or a night owl. It includes the natural times during the course of your day when you’re at your best to perform certain types of tasks.
When is the best time of day for you to talk to people? When do you prefer to tackle things that require a great deal of thought? When are you most creative? When do you seem to organize your thoughts—or surroundings—best? When do you need downtime and need to perform brainless, mundane tasks?
Understanding your natural rhythm enables you to tune into when you are naturally at your best when you’re doing certain things. Once you understand that, then you can create a flow to the activities of your day and your week.
If you’re anything like me, if someone tells you that you have to do something, then nine times out of 10 you’ll find a whole lot of other things that seem much more interesting to do before you get around to doing what you’re supposed to do. Reconfiguring your day’s activities based on your natural rhythm and flow enable you to group activities together during the time when you’re naturally better at doing them. This means that you’re no longer a slave to the clock, but instead you allow who you are naturally to lead you and shine through.
The key to success is to be true to yourself in ALL aspects of your life.
Our mind, body and spirit give us a blueprint for success. All we have to do is listen and follow the cues. So the next time you’re feeling stressed out and overwhelmed by everything that has to be done on your list, take a deep breath and think about when you’re at your best when it comes to certain activities, then create a flow of activities based on that natural rhythm. I guarantee you’ll not only feel better about yourself, but you’ll also be more accomplished and successful in the process.
Listen to who you are. You were created in a way that is unique to you, so don’t try to march to the beat of someone else’s drum. Tap into and be true to your own rhythm—and get in the flow!
