Shine, Baby! Shine!
Turn your light on, and turn your light up—it’s time for you to shine! There is no one like you on the planet. Although others have similar characteristics and traits, God made you special. You have your own unique combinations of greatness. God did that so you could shine. There are gifts and talents in you that the world needs. Is it your compassion, your talent for decorating or your ability to multiply money? Is it your eye for fashion, your ability to preach the gospel or your drive to teach teenagers? I don’t know what your unique gifts are, but I do know that something amazing is in you. God made you, and there is greatness in you.
My clients often ask me, “How do I find my shine?” Here are a few suggestions:
Identify your talents, skills and gifts – What do you do well? Most people have more than one. Cultivate your gifts.
Identify your passions – What do you do in your spare time? What would you do for free? Passions are good indicators of purpose. You find yourself doing the things you love just because.
Identify your influence – What do people ask you for? What problems do people come to you to solve? Look for your place of influence. It’s the place where, when you operate in it, others respond.
Identify your purpose – What do you do most often? Your purpose typically shows up in whatever you do. Look for it.
My last tip for learning to shine is to hire a coach. Every great athlete, performer, business owner or executive keeps a coach. We all need someone who can see our potential and help us get out of our own ways. We need to make our growth and development top priority so that we can become all we were created to be. Life is too short and too valuable to waste it living beneath your potential and hiding the greatness God placed in you. It’s time to shine!
