Breathe in the fresh air of summer

The kids are out of school and summer vacation is in countdown mode! Just pause for a moment and take it all in. Even if you don’t have children or a summer vacation planned, it’s still a golden opportunity to find moments on the weekends to simply take a load off and breathe in this fresh new season.

Find ways to relax, unwind, renew your mind, or just have fun! Schedule that 90-minute massage, unwind at the beach or hotel pool, or sit down and ponder what new things you would like to embark upon this summer. That last one could be an adventure within itself. That should be a mind release and stress reliever for you.

If you’ve been stressed out, overworked, or just feel the need to alleviate some pressure these days, think about the sheer fact that you have divine help. Jesus reassures us of this delightful fact when He says, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28) Receive His supernatural rest. Release the weariness and burden of these past few months and allow Him to work out those stress-induced kinks. Actually, setting up that massage might not be too bad right now, huh?

It’s okay to lay back and relax. It’s okay to breathe and take a break. It’s okay to do something that refreshes your spirit and invigorates you in ways that blow your mind. It’s a new season. Embrace it with joy and gladness!

So what are you waiting for? Pull out that pad and pen, and start writing a few creative ideas for the summer. Start thinking about where you would like to go. What would you like to eat that’s new and different? What could you do differently that you didn’t do last summer?

Now would be a great time to start planning that mini getaway (if you haven’t already done so). It doesn’t have to be expensive. A personal retreat at a nearby bed and breakfast could even work! If you have children, start thinking about your babysitters now or take them with you, especially if you have adult children. Make it a family affair.

Just do it! You may even want to pick up some travel magazines to retrieve a few innovative ideas. One might be surprised to discover some new summer meals while thumbing through its pages. The key is to explore. Try new things. Welcome the summer breeze and heat wave. Whatever you do, take a load off. You deserve it!
