You Are Amazing!
You are amazing! Yes, I’m talking to YOU! Now, before you deflect my compliment by saying something like, “She doesn’t even know me” or by making a list of your flaws, allow me to tell you how I know. Psalm 139:14 says that you are fearfully and wonderfully made (author’s paraphrase). Have you ever looked up what either of those words means? I must admit I love words, so my first inclination is always to look up words and study the etymology of them. I believe it gives the words deeper meaning. Let me show you what I mean.
The word “fearfully” has several definitions. Most of us are most familiar with fear meaning terror. However, in this Scripture, the word means “to cause astonishment or awe; to inspire reverence, godly fear or awe.”* The word “wonderfully” means to be distinct, marked out, separated and distinguished.* Now let’s insert those expanded meanings into the Scripture to see exactly how God sees you.
“You are designed to cause astonishment, awe and inspire godly fear, because God made you distinct, distinguished and marked out. He created you to be separate, different and amazing” (Shun Strickland translation). In other words, God made you so amazingly awesome that when others see you they should reference God, because your awesomeness reveals His existence! How amazing is that?!
The challenge is that most women are more familiar with their faults than what makes them amazing. Often we are more comfortable critiquing our shortcomings than learning and celebrating the unique greatness God placed in us. I’m not talking about being arrogant or putting others down; I’m talking about getting comfortable with the fact that God made each of us AMAZING! God is great. How could we not be great if He created us in His image? It’s simply not possible.
It’s time for each of us to ask God to show us who He made us to be. We need to know what unique skills, talents and abilities are buried inside waiting to be expressed. It’s time for us to show up and be amazing so that God can be glorified. How is God glorified when we are amazing? Have you ever stood and watched the ocean? Think about how the ocean goes until it kisses the sky and how the waves crash in continually. The ocean is beautiful and majestic, and watching it reminds us how awesome God is. Your life should be the same way. When people look at you being who you were create to be, it should cause them to stand in awe of God and His creativity.
That starts with you learning to celebrate and appreciate you. You don’t have to be perfect to be amazing. It’s time to let the world see what God put in you. You are fearfully and wonderfully made, and that equals AMAZING!
