It’s Not Over till It’s Over

The coming of Fall brings with it crisp air, sweaters for chilly winds, closed toe shoes and soup; lots and lots of soup. Some enjoy the changing of the seasons and others see only a reminder of what they didn’t accomplish. The list of things they had hoped to do this past Spring and Summer hangs heavy on their shoulders as they try and figure out what’s wrong. Well, for those people I say “STOP”. You can’t cry over spilled milk. However, if you check the carton there is still a little bit left; about three months’ worth of milk is left. So let’s adjust to make the most of what’s left in 2017.

If you still have a few vacation days left, take advantage of last minute deals to warmer climates. Even with the fury of the Hurricanes (may God comfort and keep those in their paths), there are still a number of places where the beach and the sun are intact and waiting to be enjoyed. Aruba, Curacao, Barbados just to name a few.  If you can go at the last minute, like know on Monday you can leave on Friday your wallet will be pleased.

No vacation days left? Not to stress, maybe a short weekend road trip is for you. Many state websites, as well as the well-known AAA, can give you great guides to view the changing of the colors in your area only a couple of hours away. A car ride through the countryside can be relaxing and rewarding. You can pack a picnic lunch, add a bottle of wine, fill up the tank and take off. Heading out early Saturday morning will make you feel like you’re running away from home.  If you check ahead of time you may be able to find a Bed and Breakfast to spend a night. If not a Bed and Breakfast, maybe a Holiday Inn can suffice. An overnight can be just enough to refuel you for the rest of the year.

You can’t even spare the time for a short drive then choose a hotel, the fancier the better in the city where you live. As the Summer season ends and holiday season hasn’t started yet, hotels are looking to book rooms. Make sure you don’t pick a place near the football stadium and you can come across some great deals which may even include breakfast. Leave work on Friday and go directly to the hotel and don’t go home until Sunday afternoon. I guarantee you’ll feel refreshed from the two nights away.

Don’t think just because the weather has changed and 2017 will soon come to an end that you can’t still steal away for a break. Yes, your dreams in January were filled with faraway places with a few trips to the airport and lots of sand involved. However, October has shone light on the reality that none of those dreams came to fruition. Well, it’s still not too late. As long as there is time, there is time to go. Start packing and let’s get a move on, we’ve only got three months left.
