The greatest love of all, self-love
Ever felt like everyone around you is in a relationship and you’re the only one alone? When you go shopping you’re surrounded by couples at the mall, every movie on TV seems to be telling a love story and all of your friends are busy going on dates. Yeah, I know that feeling. I found myself constantly wondering, “why am I not in a relationship?” and feeling sad that I wasn’t being loved by someone else. But I soon realized that I was missing out on the greatest love of all, self-love. One relationship that is overlooked the most is the relationship you have with yourself. By maintaining a healthy relationship with yourself first, you will be prepared to build healthy relationships with others. If you don’t love yourself, how can you let someone else in to love you? You have to believe in your own ability to create joy, comfort and love within yourself. The more you understand yourself, the better you will be at finding someone who can give you what you deserve.
One of the best ways for you to work on loving yourself more is creating time just for you. Go out to dinner, travel and learn more about yourself. Find comfort in being alone, but don’t think for a second that you are lonely. These are the moments that help you discover what makes you happy and what you enjoy most. You’ll grow stronger and find more things to love and appreciate about yourself.
Here are a few more tips to practice loving yourself more:
- Get dressed up and treat yourself to a night on the town
- Indulge in your favorite activities (shopping, hanging out with friends or crafting)
- Leave time for yourself to reflect
You don’t need anyone to complete you or make you happy. You hold the power to do that for yourself. Love will find its way to you. In the mean-time, live for yourself! Create your own happiness. Not only will this all prepare you for when you do find love, but it will help you realize how loved you are by yourself as well.
