Beauty Tips for the Working Mother
By Destiny Yarbrough
Do you remember when you realized the makeup regime you used while in your 20s wasn’t working anymore? Your career progresses as your family expands, and all of a sudden that TLC you once had doesn’t exist. Personal grooming can take a backseat once we begin our busy lives. But it doesn’t have to anymore.
Take a deep breath. Inhale and exhale slowly. Close your eyes, visualizing your daily schedule, and mentally grab the empty block(s) of time you have in the morning. It may be the 10 free minutes after waking your babies and getting them to the restroom. The 10 minutes you have after making breakfast and calling everyone to the table, or the 10 minutes you have between getting to your desk and starting work. That’s 30 minutes of personal time you can dedicate to your makeup regime.
Here are six makeup tips that will help you maximize your time while looking great.
1. Make sure the basics are covered
Groomed eyebrows and clean skin make a big difference and will reduce the amount of time you have to spend doing your makeup in the morning. For eyebrows, you can do a simple tweeze at home or get them arched at a salon. Both are effective, so do what is most convenient for you.
2. Correct, don’t conceal
When you use concealer, the pigmentation is still visible. Using an orange, peach, lilac or green corrector to conceal the dark circles under your eyes, blemishes or hyperpigmentation is more effective than concealer because it neutralizes the dark marks and allows your foundation to cover them. Here’s an in-depth video with dos and don'ts of color correcting by makeup guru Jackie Ania.
3. Use a powder instead of liquid foundation
Powder foundation is more convenient than liquid foundation. The application is quick and doesn’t require structure. Most powder foundations come in a compact with a mirror, which makes it easier to carry around for touch-ups throughout the day.
4. Lengthen your lashes
Lengthening your eyelashes will lift and brighten your eyes on even your most restless days. You can purchase a mascara to apply daily or book a salon appoint for temporary false lash extentions. Lash extensions can be pricey, but they can last up to two weeks. Both are great options, and again it depends on which is more convenient for you.
5. Use a little color
Blush can add youth and vibrance to your face. If your complexion is deeper, reach for a plum or fuchsia. If your complexion is lighter, reach for a soft pink or red. Any of these color recommendations will work if you fall in the middle of the spectrum, but a brick orange might look especially beautiful on your complexion.
6. Choose a lip stain instead of gloss or lipstick
Lip stains last throughout the day without needing reapplied. Stains also appear more natural.
Consider these six makeup tips when preparing for your day. They will help you maximize empty blocks of time to accomplish a fresh look.
