Foodie Facials: Homemade masks for a naturally delicious glow

Facials are a luxury, but not everyone has the money to spend on them. Fortunately, everything you need for a luxurious facial is right at your fingertips and, most likely, in your very own kitchen! These homemade facials will cost mere pennies compared to the chemical laden products you might use at the spa. Who doesn’t like the idea of applying all-natural ingredients to their pretty face? Here we share a scrumptious four-step facial that will have your skin refreshed and rejuvenated.

1) Exfoliation Station

  • Baking soda & cleanser scrub

Using a 2:1 ratio of baking soda to cleanser, make a paste with your favorite gentle facial cleanser. You will use about 2 teaspoons of baking soda. Massage onto damp skin using a soft, circular motion for about 90 seconds. Rinse and pat dry.

2) Calm and Cool

  • Turmeric/full fat yogurt

The lactic acid in yogurt dissolves dead skin cells, reducing the appearance of wrinkles while soothing your freshly exfoliated skin. Turmeric has powerful anti-inflammatory benefits and the rich color of the spice gives you a nice bright glow. Using a tablespoon of yogurt and a teaspoon of turmeric, mix thoroughly and slather on your face. Let dry, around 15 minutes. (Note: do not worry if you look a little “orange” after this, just wash your face and use a washcloth to scrub around the edges.)

3) Smooth and Soothe

  • Honey

Honey has natural antibacterial properties, so it has been known to help with acne and breakouts when used regularly. The sweet stuff is also a powerful moisturizer. Smooth a layer of honey over your face (about a teaspoon). Leave on for 20 to 25 minutes. Your skin will feel so soft once you rinse with warm water. (Note: As the honey sits and warms to your body temperature, you may experience a little dripping. Just keep a damp washcloth handy to wipe away any excess.)

4) Tighten Up!

  • Egg White

While the results from this facial are temporary, it’s a great thing to do right before a party or event that you want to look your most fabulous for. Egg whites have powerful astringent properties that help the appearance of large pores by tightening the skin. Just crack an egg, discard the yolk and beat the whites vigorously. Dab all over face until a full layer is present. Rinse after 10 minutes. Apply your favorite eye cream and daily moisturizer and let your skin rest for a few hours until you apply any makeup.
