Pretty Bows, Glitter and Bright Colors are a Hand’s Best Friend
The holiday season is filled with bright lights, presents, warm wishes, and (of course) shopping for gifts. In the midst of shopping for everyone else, the last person you think of is yourself. Manicures are a great way to pamper yourself and relax after a long day of running errands and buying gifts. Nicci Riddick, manicurist at Beauty Brands, offers some helpful tips and advice on the season’s hottest trends.
Pulling away from the traditional greens and reds that have become the norm for the holidays, there’s a spark of blues and whites to be seen this season. Hues from baby blue to navy blue, along with snow whites, soft ivory, and off-white colors, are making their way down the runway. Another beloved trend shining in the spotlight is glitter embellishments.
“Trending is lots of glitter—sparkle is the name of the game these days!” Riddick says. Adding glitter to French manicures and solid color manicures provides dimension and a bit of glamour to an old favorite.
The most popular and requested style that Riddick receives is “diva nails,” which have some bling, glitter or sparkle to stand out from the rest and also can include lots of rhinestones. This common style is also known as 3-D nail art.
With the end of the year approaching and New Year’s fast on its heels, what better way to show your fun side than by showcasing your nails? Simple designs and primary colors can always use an updated makeover.
The best way for people to have fun with colors is not to be afraid of wearing more than one color on the nails. “Switching up colors on each hand or on all fingers is a good way to show one’s fun side, and certainly multiple colors on one nail is over the top fun!” Riddick suggests.
If simple and easy is the route you take, then try using one of these trending colors for the season in your next manicure or pedicure. Two standout colors that Riddick has had many requests for have been various shades of purple and shades of teal and green.
“When it comes to choosing a color for your mani or pedi, don’t think seasonally,” Riddick says. “Nail polish colors don’t have to just be bright colors in spring/summer or dark colors in fall/winter. One shouldn’t be afraid to wear any color anytime. They are nails, so have fun with colors!”
One last tip to remember is to keep your hands moisturized and apply lotion—the key to healthy cuticles and nails is moisture and to keep your hands out of the harsh elements.
