Five Fall Must Haves
Ah, fall – chillier temps and pumpkin spice everything makes you want to curl up by the nearest fireplace. But it also can leave you not ready to say goodbye to your summer wardrobe (hey – you worked HARD for that summer body!) and wondering what items you’ve got to have for the season.
Not to fret, my lovelies. I’m here to cover both. Don’t pack ALL your summer items – not yet. Let me show you a couple ways to wear some summer favs and I’ll also give you the low-down of five must-have pieces for fall!
Don’t put away your favorite maxi, denim shorts or your favorite romper. These are GREAT pieces to keep in your closet until it’s just ridiculous. (Cue the snow blower.)
Your favorite maxi just needs an overcoat. Think about layering a vest and scarf or denim jacket and scarf from your fall collection
Denim shorts are super stylish with a white tee, leather jacket and booties. Throw on a lightweight scarf for bonus (warmth) points!
Rompers are my jam because they’re so versatile. Check out this print romper with a belt and cropped jacket. Just add (you guessed it) booties and you’ll be stylin’ for sure.
My five must-haves for fall aren’t trendy. They aren’t necessarily what you’re going to see in every window display at the mall. I’m about longevity in a wardrobe, and to achieve longevity, each piece you own needs to serve several purposes!
1. A denim shirt with a little something extra
A denim shirt of any wash, level of destruction or embellishments can pull a look together in no time. If it happens to have that somethin’-somethin’ then it could add some interest to your look also.
2. Great overcoats: vest, textured/printed jacket and a trench
Why? Because, layers! And because like the denim shirt, a good collection of overcoats will create a polished look to rival the best street style blogger. Look for a vest that is either cropped or long line, depending on your body type. Definitely pick a fabric of the season or a seasonless color. A textured/printed jacket could be blazer, a bomber or leather and is a great outfit completer. Three pieces is key to looking put-together. And for the trench, I suggest one in a lighter weight fabric you can wear in the fall and spring.
This BCBG vest is sold out, but here’s a great Vest
3. A solid jumpsuit (in a color of the season)
Sometimes you just need something to throw on and go with minimal accessorizing.
Opt for one with a skinny or tapered leg for maximum shoe versatility: flats, booties, tall boots, pumps or heels.
4. A wedge bootie
Wedges are comfy and are the dressy-casual (oxymoron much?) upgrade to a flat.
5. A convertible boot
You can change your look from casual daytime to night-out vixen just by changing the shaft height!
Happy wearing, girls! I’m looking forward to bringing you more fashion and beauty tips in the near future.
