I wanted to start the 2018 Real Women, Real Style Campaign off with a woman I know so many of us can relate to. It is important to me that you meet women from across the country that are just like you. Each month, our Hope for Women online publication you will peer into the life and the closet of a different woman, whose struggles will remind you that you are clothed in strength and dignity just like the ‘Real Woman’ you are reading about..

Our January ‘Real Woman’ is Cheryl Pullins, a former corporate America human resources professional, turned iconic brand strategist for women. This stylish Philly native now resides in Tampa, Florida, where as you can see in the images we shot at a recent photo shoot, Cheryl is living her life like it’s golden!

I sat down with Cheryl after the shoot, to get a behind the scenes look at her passion for fashion as well as giving you an insiders view on how I created her style strategy. As a little girl growing up in Philadelphia, her adopted mother was a couture fashionista with a fondness for fabulous. The stories Cheryl tells about her mother’s class and candor are legendary. She always dressed Cheryl to the nines, but it wasn’t until about age 15 that Cheryl began her own personal love affair with fashion.

I asked Cheryl, “What is your relationship to fashion and style?” With a vibrant expression and an excited squeal she replied, “I love fashion! It shifts you and allows you to embody the woman you want to become.” I believe that is what all of us love about fashion. It’s why we follow bloggers like Claire Sulmers, as well. She is a fashion icon that Cheryl and I both keep on our style radar.

As Cheryl’s stylist, one of the most important things for me is making sure there is always a strategic statement within her visual presentation. Like Tina Turner, she is known for her red lipstick, and we add in a pop of Coco Chanel with endless ropes of pearls, while finishing off her style equation with some Iris Apfel pop. Cheryl and I both went gaga over Iris Apfel’s Netflix documentary and we fell in love with her ability to just be who she is.

That’s the thing about style. It is literally not about your size, your age or all the cop-outs we normally use to devalue ourselves. It is literally about expressing your truth. The 2018 Real Women, Real Style Campaign, is all about creating a visual narrative that reminds you, that you can look and feel your best right now! You don’t have to wait for permission, you just have to strut!
