Simplify Your Closet, Simplify Your Life
Sure, spring may be when the cleaning happens. But summer is definitely when the simplifying should happen. It's hot out. When you're not at work, you're outside, vacationing, planning your next vacation or taking up a new sport with your significant other. What you don't want to do is spend forever sorting through all of the articles of clothing, shoes and random belts/scarves thrown everywhere in your closet!
You might even find two shirts you cannot ever remember wearing and one that you are 98 percent sure hasn't been worn since college. In an effort to simplify this summer, it’s time to vow to start by simplifying your closet.
Here are some questions to ask yourself when going through the simplifying process:
When was the last time I wore this?
Do I feel like it's flattering? Or is it so comfortable that I don't even care if it's flattering?
Does this reflect my personal style?
Can I dress this up and dress it down?
Is this still age-appropriate?
Is this a statement piece that I absolutely cannot imagine parting with?
Bottom line: If you don't love it, toss it—and by “tossing it,” you can sell it for $2 at a yard sale and/or donate to Goodwill. Turn up the music, and spend some time exploring your closet, keeping those key pieces you love while getting rid of what you don’t need. The beautiful thing is that this is a win-win--you simplify your closet and feel like a new woman while giving what you no longer need to people who do!
Let’s all set a goal to get rid of the excess and simplify—starting with the closet.
