The Good, Bad and Ugly of 2017
If there’s one thing I learned in 2016 is never get used to anything. It was a tumultuous year for a lot of us. My son was born in January and I lost my little sister in May. It was the single most joyous and devastating thing that happened to me. A lot of us didn’t experience extremes such as these, but it sure did make me realize what’s important in life: how we foster and sustain relationships with those closest to us.
I got this deep nesting feeling; I really just wanted to stay in my bubble, in my area, in familiar territory. Shopping local was something I did on small business Saturday but it took on a new meaning for me last year. I started really frequenting local events and became more connected with my city and the people that make up the heartbeat.
There was bad and ugly in 2016, but it’s all how you look at things. Digest the bad and come up with a way to turn it to the positive in 2017. For me, I’m going to shop local as much as I can, care about where my clothes and meals come from, go without my phone every now and then and talk face to face with the people I care about, just to name a few!
