Most of us are television-lovers. For some of us, it’s a welcomed release at the end of a long day. For others, it’s an escape into an imaginary world. But there are also those of us who find something inspiring among the many shows and characters that enter our living rooms every day.

Some of us at Hope for Women took time to think about our favorite TV women and what makes us love them so much. We came up with a diverse group of women, showing our unique take on what makes an actress or character special. There was one common thread, however: all of us picked a woman with inspiring qualities, who not only entertains but provokes thought as well.

Kala (Marketing Intern) – Tyra Banks

Why? “Because she is passionate about her career, but still has morals. She works hard to empower women and make them feel more confident with her shows The Tyra Show and America’s Next Top Model. She has donated and helped out with several charities and even travels to third-world countries like Africa to help the people first-hand.” Kala adds, “She represents all that I wish to be, both as a person and a career woman.”

Hannah (Editorial Assistant) – Lauren Graham

Lauren Graham, formerly Lorelai Gilmore on Gilmore Girls is now starring as Sarah Braverman in Parenthood. Hannah says, “She is so witty and funny. I like her character so much, because she is always so confident in who she is - even if that person does not always have her life together.”

Deishima (Book Editor) – Pauley Perrette

Pauley Perrette plays Abby Sciuto on NCIS. “The character of Abby is quirky, fun, intelligent, and tough but sensitive. I love her uniqueness and how she changes her style a lot. She loves variety and she keeps it real. She is honest, supportive, down-to-earth, interesting and caring,” Deishima says of the actress. “Pauley is 43 but she looks 25. She is also a singer. She is a member of Hollywood United Methodist Church and a big advocate for many causes.”

Kristen (Assistant Editor) - Kerry Washington

Kerry Washington is “gorgeously chic and plays a mean Olivia Pope on Scandal. She is an extremely talented woman and and a great role model,” Kristen explains.

Angelia (CEO/Publisher) - Phylicia Rashad & Esther Rolle

“I absolutely love Florida Evans on GoodTimes (played by Esther Rolle) and the lovely Clair Huxtable (portrayed by Phylicia Rashad) on The Cosby Show. Both of these ladies were the rock of their families - extremely strong - and always kept their families together.” Both knew how to remain grateful and steadfast at any economic level,” says Angelia.

As for my choice? My current favorite TV woman is Alison Sweeney. She is not only a talented actress, playing the very complicated Samantha Brady on Days of Our Lives, but she also hosts The Biggest Loser. She is very open about her past weight issues, which is why she is so compassionate and caring with the people on the show. She has written The Mommy Diet for women who are expecting and working to get back in shape after the baby, and she competes in marathons and triathlons while being an excellent wife and mother. She promotes and raises money for many worthy causes, including Stand Up 2 Cancer. On top of that, she is also now writing novels. I would love it if Alison would bottle some of her energy and send it to me! She is a dynamo who makes the most of every opportunity presented to her.

Now, it’s your turn. Please share with us the actress/character you love!
