Meet April Hernandez, Hope’s newest blogger

Allow me to introduce myself.

My name is April Hernandez, and I am a wife, mother, sister, cousin, someone’s confidant, a survivor of domestic violence, actor, motivational speaker, and a rebel with a cause. I am flawed. I am five feet tall and a workout junkie. I love lipstick and cannot live without mascara or concealer. I was born and raised in the Bronx. I love movies, and I love my popcorn without butter, mixed with Raisinets. I love hearing stories from people who made the impossible possible. My eyes and lips are my favorite features. I am a size six, sometimes. I have always been very self-conscious about my shoulders because they are wide, and I barely have a waist!

Motherhood is the hardest thing in the world.

I am a dreamer. “Just do it” by Nike is the motto I have lived by since high school—it gets straight to the point, sort of like me. My parents have been together more than 40 years and they taught me that anything is possible as long as I work hard and dedicate myself. I guess they were right. I love to laugh and do impersonations—actually my husband tells me I have a gift for being able to study people and pick up their mannerisms quickly.

Did I say I’m a dreamer? Well, sometimes I have dreams and visions so big that it scares me to death, and I feel as if I will never fulfill them. My biggest fear is never fully becoming the woman that God intended me to be. It has taken me many years of soul-searching, therapy and prayer to accept the woman I am today. So, I continue dreaming and chasing God.

Well, now that you know a little about me, do you know who you are?

I’m not referring to the persona on any social media networks; no, I am referring to YOU—the one you are when you are alone in your bedroom looking in the mirror. Granted, we are all at different stages in our lives. So this allows you room to discover something new about yourself. Come to a place where you can write down who you are, where you’ve been and where you are going, and feel great about the journey. Understand that some days are better than others, so don’t be too hard on yourself. Love who you are now because there is only one you!
