6 Things to Binge-Watch on Netflix During Your Post-Holiday Self-Care Sessions
Netflix has a ton of great shows that fly under the radar. Here are some for you to explore in your downtime.
The Get Down – A group of teens in 1970s New York City wildly chase their dreams and defy the authority figures who try to stop them. This musically charged show blends elements of disco, funk, gospel, and R&B into the budding hip-hop scene of the era to create an electrifying and inspiring tale that can reawaken the youthfulness in all of us.
The 100 – This seven-season series has some controversial moments near the end of its life, but it is quite an exciting journey to experience. Earth was destroyed in a nuclear catastrophe, and humans have been subsisting sufficiently in space for almost a century. 100 juvenile delinquents are sent to “the ground” to determine if Earth is viable once again, but they soon realize they aren’t the only ones who survived the first apocalypse, and that who you are and what you do to survive are two completely different things.
Billy On the Street – Billy Eichner (Parks & Rec, The Lion King, American Horror Story) hosts this dynamic reality/talk/game show that includes celebrities and scattered strangers on the streets of New York City. Four seasons of Billy’s frantic, over-the-top energy and crass, patronizing manner is a packed-fist-punch of pop culture that will leave you in sidesplitting stitches.
Zoo – Based on the novel by James Patterson and Michael Ledwidge, this sci-fi-thriller series explores the idea of the animal kingdom uniting to coordinate and execute attacks to take down the human race. If you go into this understanding that it is insane and exorbitant (and was sadly cancelled before fully resolving anything), you are in for a wild and exciting ride.
Love, Death + Robots – A unique, animated series comprised of 10 short films that range in elements from robots, spaceships and weaponized cats to murder, aliens and frosty pocket-sized people. Each piece delivers its own self-sufficient story that is thought provoking, visually bewitching, and will leave you contemplating more than just the intricate animation effects.
The Toys That Made Us & The Movies That Made Us – These docuseries sets explore the stories behind now-iconic toys and films such as Barbie, LEGO, Dirty Dancing, and Die Hard. Packed with interviews and anecdotes, you’ll learn how these toys and movies earned their righteous reputations and remain timeless and significant so many years later.
