When you live somewhere long enough, it’s not unusual to get bored with your space. Luckily, there are small steps you can take to make your home new and exciting again.

Scatter cushions, or throw pillows, are a great way to bring a cozy touch to your home. Here we’ll discuss the five best ways to use them in your space.

Add Them to Your Sofa

Scatter cushions can transform your couch into an exciting focal point. The number you should add depends on the size of your sofa. For a smaller sofa, stick to one on each side. For a larger sofa, you can add three to six. Just make sure there is enough room for guests to sit!

Fun fact: Your scatter cushions don’t need to be identical. Mix things up by adding different colored cushions or ones with interesting patterns. However, they should complement the couch, each other and the space for a harmonious and intentional look.

Create a Nook

Cushions make everything more cozy and comfortable, so adding them to a ledge in your home means you’re creating a whole new area to lounge in. If you don’t have a ledge, you can easily create your own nook by pushing a big cushion against a window or into a corner. Position scatter cushions and blankets around it and voilà!

Place Them on Your Bed

If your comforter is feeling bland, consider adding colorful scatter pillows to your bed. Not only are they a soft addition to your current bed pillows, but they can add brightness and sophistication to the room. Consider matching them to the frame or headboard, or incorporate an entirely new color to the space. The options are endless!

Dine with Them

Mix things up at meal time by dining on the floor with a low table! Use scatter cushions to designate seating for you and your guests. You may enjoy eating in your new space so much that you’ll never return to traditional chairs again.

Change Them with the Seasons

This is an artistic way to change things up every few months while still keeping your interior fresh and vibrant all year long. Challenge yourself by looking for specific cushions for each season. For example, bring out scatter cushions in yellows and greens for spring and summer, and darker hues for fall and winter. Look outside to find inspiration and reflect that in your home!

Have Fun!

Scatter cushions come in all different kinds of colors, patterns, textures and styles. Although small, scatter cushions can drastically change the aesthetic of your home without hurting your wallet. Happy decorating!
