The Met just got a lot greener this year. When celebrities lead by example, the public is bound to follow. Especially when they make a fashion statement by promoting eco-friendly and sustainably-made apparel and designers. This is exactly what many famous personalities did this year – intermix sustainability with fashion for their glamorous red carpet look. Here are the top five!

Billie Eilish

Gen Z favorite, Billie Eilish, proved that you can look vintage, timeless, sustainable and iconic all at the same time. This pale pink gown was designed by Oscar de la Renta for her on the sole condition that the brand stops using fur in its entire production house. Yes, she did that!

Not only has Stella McCartney been running a sustainable fashion line of her own, but has also partnered with Adidas to introduce an eco-friendly collection of sportswear. She was also responsible for dressing Julia Garner this year, and did a commendable job. A sparkly mesh gown layered on top of a white bodysuit is all you need to leave the audience hooked.

Lorde did not fail to look royal (just like her song) in the majestic gown and headgear she wore by Collina Strada, a brand that is known for using deadstock materials and sustainably sourced resources for garment production.

Victoria’s Secret model Winnie Harlow has not only raised awareness about her skin condition and been vocal about her diverse ethnicity, but also graced this year’s red carpet in a beautiful, black gown designed by Iris Van Herpen who uses innovative and sustainable materials in her production.

This particular dress may just have saved many aquatic animals from dying. Natalia Bryant confidently pulled up in an all sequin bubble ball gown designed by Conner Ives. This was the designer’s first Met Gala outfit that certainly left an impact because of the fact that the whole dress was made of recycled plastic.
