Mike Epps Netflix Special
When Netflix approached iconic Indianapolis native Mike Epps about filming a new comedy special in Los Angeles or Atlanta, his response was “My next special will be recorded in my hometown nor not at all.” Mike has never forgotten where he comes from and has continued to support Indiana throughout his career. From the red carpet to the show, the event was nothing short of spectacular.
“I am excited to not only film my Netflix special in my hometown, but also at the historic Madam Walker Theatre where there is so much Black history," Mike said in a statement. "It’s only right that I shine a light on my city.”
The Netflix special was filmed over the course of three sold out shows, two days in a row at the historic Madam Walker Legacy Center. Mike was accompanied by opening act, Henry Welch. Henry is an actor/comedian and has starred alongside Mike in productions such as The Trap (2019), All-Star Comedy Jam (2014) as well as previous comedy specials hosted by Mike.
The entire show was filled with non-stop laughter from the moment both Henry and Mike took the stage. Mike joked and shared stories about growing up in Indy, life in L.A. and his new marriage.
Mike was bestowed two honors during the Saturday night taping. Indianapolis Mayor Joe Hogsett and Congressman Andre Carson (also an Indianapolis native) showed their appreciation to Mike and his continued support of Indiana by officially declaring November 20th Mike Epps Day in the city of Indianapolis. President Kristian Sticklen of the Madam Walker Legacy Center had the honor of inducting Mike into the Madam Walker Hall of Fame. Mike is the first person to be inducted to this Hall of Fame.
After the show, the special VIP’s were able to connect with influencers in the community in a private party hosted by the Madam Walker Legacy Center and sponsored by Birdie Brown Distillery. The release date for the special is still unknown, however, be on the lookout because this show did not disappoint.
