Seeing God in the Rainbows of Life
Whenever the rainbow appears in the clouds, I will see it and remember the everlasting covenant between God and all living creatures of every kind on the earth.
—GENESIS 9:16
It was all so complicated. My previous medical conditions of weakening connective tissues and brittle bones didn’t help matters. As a forty-three-year-old single woman, I was feeling overwhelmed and alone as so many factors had to be considered to determine my best treatment for breast cancer.
I kept praying for God’s direction and peace. I went for a second opinion at another medical facility, and this second doctor prescribed the exact situation as the first. I was grateful for this confirmation and that my mom and my sister had gone with me for moral support.
The three of us had gone through a rainstorm to get to that appointment. As we began to head home, we were amazed that over the horizon we could see two rainbows completely arched one on top of the other. The colors were vivid, and the overall effect was breathtaking. It seemed to follow us all the way home. My mom said it was a sign from God that everything was going to work out for good — a promise from God of His love and faithfulness.
A prayer: You are King of heaven and earth. Thanks to Your Holy Word, I can picture You sitting on Your throne with “the appearance of jasper and carnelian. A rainbow, resembling an emerald, encircles the throne. Surrounding the throne are twenty-four other thrones, and seated on them are twenty-four elders. They are dressed in white and have crowns of gold on their heads. From the throne come flashes of lightning, rumblings and peals of thunder.” You and Your throne room are full of glory — and a rainbow!
Thank You for the reminders and signs of Your love in this life. You have me in the palm of Your hand and guide me through the maze of details that I don’t understand. Thank You for the hope I can have that even in the storms of life, You are able to make rainbows!
