Meet Cherlyn M. Carby, Founder and CEO of Skylar J’s LushUs Kids.
As a working mom with 20 years of experience in the Legal and Finance Industry, Cherlyn struggled to find kid-friendly products that were gentle on her daughter Ryan Skylar's hair. Like other moms, she noticed her daughter battled skin psoriasis on her scalp, and struggled to find natural solutions to help with this condition.
Cherlyn decided to create her own product line, offering other working moms the option to choose a brand that included natural and organic ingredients without harsh chemicals to address scalp conditions such as skin psoriasis and eczema. Within six months, she created a haircare system formulated for children and brought it to the marketplace.
Cherlyn also spends her time mentoring young adult entrepreneurs, teaching them the fundamentals of entrepreneurship and helping them establish their own businesses. Currently pursuing her PhD., Cherlyn believes that education goes beyond the classroom and has started an internship program, actively seeking out college graduates and students to offer them the opportunity to intern at her start-up company and learn entrepreneurship.
Do you have a personal quote or life's motto you live by?
A quote I have always lived by is the scripture "I can do all things through Christ, that strengthens me." - Philippians 4:13
Since a young child, this verse has always kept me going. In everything I do, I am a firm believer that it can and will be done by the grace of the Most High. My motivation, determination and ambition to make things happen are not something I credit all to myself. It is the strength I receive through my relationship with Christ that allows me to do what I do.
What inspires you?
My children are my inspiration -- building generational wealth and leaving a legacy for the next generation keeps me going the distance.
A fun fact about yourself:
I am such a jokester and clown at times. I love making people laugh because to me laughter is the best medicine!
