Looking for Your Word of the Year Requires a New Perspective
When you look around, do you notice that everything seems scattered, misplaced and overwhelmed? Are you yearning for the feeling of being renewed? Perhaps your life looks as if you’ve had a breakdown? And your first thought may be… have I hit a crisis?
First, cancel out the negativity without jumping to conclusions. With life constantly screaming “go, go, go”, especially during the busy winter season, a moment to slow down and find intentional perspective in the negativity can be hard to find. However, these moments of quiet are essential towards the end of the year, as the anticipation of a new year and a want to become new begins.
A good way to start self-reflection in these moments could be to think of a word or a few words you would like to live in the new year. This may just be the moment of a fresh start because words can set the tone and the aspirations you want to see.
Have you got your word or words? Have you thought about reading books that align with your word of the year? Choosing books that match your word of the year brings a new perspective and leads to new possibilities.
If your word is “bold”, you can begin a journey of reading alongside characters whose personalities are bold. You could even get interior design books to begin a bold new project, or something as simply as considering a bold paint color could be a great place to start. While you are at it, if you have been wanting to take a trip for years, why not learn a new language and read books to set the tone. Book the trip! Do it solo if you must!
