The Power of Our Words
Living the life you want is honestly created by you. That’s right. Yes, God is the supreme Being, but He has given us the power to create the world in which we live. Our mouths have power more so the words in which we speak. That’s why we must learn to speak with intention. In this article, we will discuss how to frame the year you will inevitably love with just a simple alteration of your words.
Word(s) is defined in the Oxford dictionary as:
1. a single distinct meaningful element of speech or writing, used with others (or sometimes alone) to form a sentence and typically shown with a space on either side when written or printed. 2. a command, password or signal
3rd person present: words
choose and use particular words in order to say or write (something).
And maybe that is the point of it all every time we speak, we are writing out the scripts of our lives. Do we love our life enough to watch the words that come out of our mouths on a daily basis? Have you ever stopped to think if you would “love” your life overall that the words you spoke would be different?
Our words as stated in the definition above are a command, password or signal. What it failed to state is that it is the very command, password or signal that forms the life that you either dread to face or eagerly await daily. The words that we speak today form the world in which we live tomorrow. And the words we spoke yesterday helped form what we see today. So, what have you been saying? Whatever it is, you’re looking at it right now. There is power in your words. Authority in your mouth. Even the word of God says, “life and death are in the power of your tongue”. To live a life that you love on purpose you must begin by changing your conversation and talk with purpose. Speak with direct intention.
Most people when faced with a series of undesired unexpected events tend to say things like, “what else can happen” or “when it rains it pours” or “I knew today was going to be …..” The thing about those words is that without changing the words you speak, you WILL inevitably see more of the same. Here’s how to frame the year that you will love with just a simple alteration of your words.
Renew Your Way of Thinking
Most times we must re-program ourselves from things that have been embedded in us since we were kids without knowing it. Maybe it came from that auntie who you heard say at every get-together that all men cheat, and now you are in a relationship or (dare I say marriage) where you’ve been unknowingly disrespected more times than you would like to admit. It first was a thought that was implanted like a seed in your mind that was watered by another set of words, causing the fruit of your being ok with being cheated on because you were desensitized and it was normalized by your environment.
Change and renew your mind. Know that you deserve better and that you are worthy of the love that uplifts, restores, empowers and motivates. Love equates to actions that line up with the truest and purest form of love. Think positive on purpose!
In the Bible, Phil. 4:8 says - “Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.” Because what you meditate on is normally what you allow to come out of your mouth, it becomes your confessions. This leads us to number two.
Now Change Your Daily Confessions
Be intentional with your words. Before you speak, stop and count to ten in your mind. Then, ask yourself if the words you are about to speak are words that you would truly like to live words? Are the words necessary and is it improving the current situation? If not, refrain. Watch your words.
Speak with Intention and Authority
Whatever you say, make sure that it’s in alignment with what you truly want to see come to pass in your life. If you are desiring to lose weight, then your conversation is, “I am going to lose ten pounds in the next 45 days.” You’re not speaking what’s never been done in your family before. You’re declaring what you shall see!
This is the part that makes people think they are going crazy, until they begin to see the outward manifestation of what they (even when it seemed impossible) were declaring, things that appeared to be unattainable. “I shall be the first successful entrepreneur in my family”, “I will be the first to graduate college with honors in my family”, “I shall have healthy loving relationships with others”, “I shall live a debt-free life.” These are the types of confessions and declarations that you must make. I break every generational curse that lies within my bloodline, and I declare breakthrough and prosperity in every area of my life.
You must begin to speak in alignment with the desired destiny instead of the narrative that your situation, family or environment has tried to paint for you, and if I go one deeper, the lies that the enemy has been whispering to you. He is the father of lies and there is no truth in him. His job is to steal, kill and destroy you and the amazing destiny that is waiting on the other side of your intentional conversations. The sooner you implement these steps/principles, the faster you will begin to see the life you desire vs. the life in which you just allowed to happen due to the lack of intentional words and conversations said to yourself as well as others.
