7 Fun Ideas for Ladies Who Love the Outdoors while Traveling
There are times when, as a mom or caretaker, you just need to take a step back from all of your obligations and refresh. The next time you’re feeling that way, why not try taking a trip into the great outdoors?
While there are plenty of options out there for a day out in the woods or in the mountains, we have a few ideas here we know will make it a great one.
Take a raft down the river
A little bit of sun and a lot of water is a recipe for a great time. Most of us live near a river or creek that’s safe enough to spend a lazy day on the river. Many towns along rivers also rent rafts to visitors. Spend a little time doing your research, call up your friends and schedule a date. It’s an uncomplicated and affordable getaway idea. Just make sure you bring sunscreen.
Try target shooting
If you’re feeling frustrated, target shooting is an unmatched outlet to get it out. Whether you prefer firing a crossbow or a sleek air gun, it’s hard to beat a day at the range. Try it just a few times and you’ll quickly improve. You might even discover you’re a natural.
Go Bouldering
Indoor climbing gyms have grown in popularity a lot over the past few years. If you’re a regular climber, it’s time to put what you’ve learned to the test. Bouldering certainly isn’t easy, but it doesn’t require nearly as much endurance as mountain climbing. You can also find boulders rated by difficulty online, starting with V0 and going up from there. If you’re new to bouldering, stick with a V0 through V2.
Give hunting a try
We’re assuming you took our advice and tried target shooting. Now, it’s time to put your skills to the test. Once you feel like you have a handle on your trusty high-tech crossbow or your brand new hunting air rifle, try taking it out into the woods for a hunt. Start small, and find out when small game hunting season starts in your state. And, of course, be sure to bring along someone with experience who can show you the ropes.
Spend a day cross-country skiing
Regular skiing can be a tough proposition. As thrilling as it is, you almost need to start young. Otherwise, you can expect to fall. A lot. There’s a bit less risk with cross-country skiing. Since you aren’t flying down a slope dodging other skiers and snowboarders, you’re less liable to fall on your face. Instead, you can enjoy all of the sights and sounds of winter while traveling at your own pace.
Relax for a few hours by bird watching
Bird watchers are a passionate bunch. But you don’t need to be an expert to enjoy a few hours taking in nature while learning more about the breeds of birds near your home. The best part about bird watching is that you don’t need to venture out into the country to spot rare breeds of birds. City parks across the country are home to hundreds of breeds of birds. It’s a simple — and fun — staycation idea.
End the day by stargazing
Light pollution can make it difficult for those of us who live in or near cities to see much of the night sky. We’re missing out. Laying out on a blanket under the stars can be the perfect way to end the day. If you’re lucky enough to live within driving distance of a desert, it can be a remarkable experience. It’s just one of many great things to do outdoors and ways to unwind before bed.
Start planning now
You probably have a million things on your plate. Time flies when you’re busy. When you have time today, take a few minutes to plan your next trip. You’ll be happy you did!
