How to Prioritize a Healthy Lifestyle
One of the most powerful things you can do for yourself and the people you love is to take control of your health. Let’s face it, we’ve all had those times of letting our health slide to the back burner. Here are three ways we can keep our health a priority, even during the busiest part of the year!
Discover your “why”
First, take a moment to think about why you want to prioritize your health! This is what keeps us going when we don’t feel like doing the work it takes to invest in ourselves and our goals. For me, my motivation is my two boys. I want to show them what it looks like to live a healthy life and I also want to be able to physically keep up with them and enjoy the time we have together to the fullest! Whatever your “why” is, take a moment to think through it, then write it down and hold onto it.
Find an accountability partner
The American Society of Training and Development found that having an accountability partner raises your chances of success to 65%, and having a plan to consistently check in with them raises your chances to 95%! Talk about valuable! Who can you ask to keep you accountable in your health journey? Whether it’s your spouse or partner, a gym buddy or a friend, you may be shocked at the benefits of helping each other embrace health!
Flip your perspective
You matter, friend - and not just because of the roles you play. YOU, just you, matter as someone uniquely designed to be you. Your energy levels, emotions, hormones and physical body are innately important as a person. You matter, and it’s not selfish to take care of yourself. In fact, it’s not only okay, it’s good to pursue these things. Not only are you taking care of yourself, it will spill over into other areas of your life as you become more confident and joyful. When we view ourselves as made in the image of a Creator, we can see ourselves as deeply worthy of care and wellness.
