3 Tips for Big and Bold Spring Fashion

May has now arrived and summer is right around the corner. After a dreadfully long winter for a lot of us, the arrival of Spring brings about a new hope, a new look, and a new wardrobe. Move over winter coat, Spring is in the air and so is a much needed infusion of color into a normally more neutral-friendly palette.

While many of us might be itching to update our wardrobes by hitting up the mall, there are a few simple changes you can make to brighten up your existing pieces without breaking the bank. And remember, there is a color for every skin tone, don’t get discouraged if a certain shade does not work for you, that’s the beauty of individuality, once you find your signature shade, you’ll feel and look more confident.

How Floral Are You?
I have my own reservations for floral prints but used in the right way, they are extremely flattering for every body shape and skin tone. Larger prints (they don’t have to be floral) are great for drawing attention to your outfit. If you like wearing summer dresses, make sure the print isn’t overwhelming. If the print is smaller (think about the size of your palm) then chances are you will not get lost in the dress. Also, try to keep the color scheme on the dress to about 3-4 colors. If you are wondering why, it’s for symmetry. Accessories can help make the rest of your outfit pop as well but like the print, colors can, at times, be too much.

More of a skirt or shorts girl? I have good news! Plenty of designers are making floral prints for these items and are a great way to show your fun and flirty side. Choosing a floral for a bottom piece allows you to wear a more basic top but use bigger or more colorful necklaces and earrings without being too busy on your top half.

Solids in Season
Colorful solids are one of my favorite ways to transition into a warmer wardrobe. Pants, shirts, shoes, you name it, if you want a solid in any shade, this is the time to make them work for you. Shift dresses are a fantastic way to wear bolder colors. And who doesn’t love a colorful pair of jeans? Purple, pink, orange? Neon is totally in right now and whether you are into this Spring’s hottest shade, Neon Pink, or like a little more variety for your 80’s throwback, there is definitely a color out there for you. Pair a neon top with a neutral bottom and you’ve got yourself a perfect outfit to keep you feeling fresh all day long.

Accessorize, Accessorize, Accessorize
This is one of the best ways to make your wardrobe work for you. Accessories don’t have to be expensive and they are easy to mix and match with your wardrobe because they can dress up an outfit as easily as they can be a stylish. Chunky bangles, big necklaces, and feather earrings add your own signature to an outfit.

If you aren’t ready to wear layers of neon or sky-high heels just yet, add some bounce to your step with a bold flat and a fun belt. They don’t have to color coordinate and are the perfect focal points to tie your outfit together. Sometimes keeping your clothing simple and your accessories bold can be the best way of showing off your inner fashionista.
