Music, Culture and Fashion! During July 14th-18th the fashion industry was in full attendance in Miami for the popular Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Swim. The festivities commenced with an official kickoff party at the luxurious Raleigh Hotel where fashion met fun poolside. As I walked the blue carpet wearing a black sequined dress with my Fashion and Beauty Assistant Sandra Bailey, we noticed popular actress Jessica Szohr of the hit show Gossip Girl. Jessica was the official DJ for the evening spinning a mix of songs that energized the crowd. Various members of the press mingled with socialites while beautiful models served chilled beverages under exotically lit palm trees. The scene was fabulous and the energy was invigorating as everyone celebrated the days ahead.
Friday: Around noon we arrived at the fun and fabulous Lifestyle Retreat Lounge. I decided on a long blue and red halter sundress with embellished crystal sandals for the occasion. As we maneuvered through excited fashionistas, we were confronted with rows of decadent deserts, h’orderves, and complimentary gifts for the guests. Just as a diamond sparkles in the sun, my eyes were immediately drawn to dazzling jewelry on a table. A diversity of beautiful
bracelets and necklaces displayed exotically colored stones which were hand made by jewelry designer Taryn Aronson of Jewels by Dunn. Taryn was witty and passionate as she explained her inspiration behind several of her pieces and the origin of the designs. After consuming the eye candy and engaging in a bit of photo booth fun, I was provided the opportunity to meet celebrity makeup artist Ashunta Sheriff. As I sat down in her beauty chair I felt like one of her notorious celebrity clients as camera crews captured her charismatically applying a mixture of two concealer colors under my eyes. She began to educate me on the importance of having the correct shade (to avoid raccoon eyes in photos) while discussing the products she used on her celebrity clients Jennifer Lopez, Marissa Tomei, and Alicia Keys. After being reminded of my time constraint by Sandra, I changed into a knee length leopard print dress from Cache with gold stiletto heels before darting to the Poko Pano Swimwear show by Paolo Robba. As I sipped on sweet coconut water I allowed my feet to relax into the sand inside the Oasis
tent. At that moment the sounds of salsa music beat through large speakers that vibrated our seats and evoked the desire to dance. Tall tan models with defined bodies stepped onto the runway debuting the designer’s personal vision for swimwear, which consisted of elaborate floral designs and eccentric bold colors. Seconds after the show ended we dashed across a packed court yard that was reminiscent of an upscale beach party to Cabana Grande (the main tent) for The Beach Bunny Swimwear debut. As I arrived in the tent I immediately noticed the dim blue lighting and large crystal chandeliers that hung directly over the runway, which contributed to the overall ambiance of the evening. As the show started, rapid bursts of light escaped the photographers cameras in an attempt to capture the essence of the moment. The show featured glamorous “bridal swimwear” that incorporated intricate detailing on various swimsuits worn by voluptuous models. As I departed the venue I found myself desiring more despite the length of my busy day. As we entered into the last show of the evening we took in a colorful, youthful and fun collection by Crystal Jin. As I departed the venue in pursuit of a pillow, I began to observe the fashion industry professionals that had excitement oozing through their pores. The air buzzed with feedback about the events of the day and what should be expected for the duration of the weekend. Before I closed my eyes that evening, I thought of the quote by the famous Coco Chanel “I don’t do fashion, I am fashion.” It flowed through my veins and pumped excitement to my heart. I eagerly anticipated the rising of the sun for another opportunity to witness fashion at its finest.
