Put Creativity In Your Holiday Giving!
We’ve made it to the last month of the year, despite the challenges 2020 has delivered. As we happily wave goodbye to a year filled with unprecedented happenings, let’s celebrate our survival, our learnings, our hope, and yes, a joyful holiday season.
As we ring in this “Most Wonderful Time of the Year,” being cognizant of our 2020 learnings is more important than ever. Too many times, we are guilty of exceeding our holiday budget. During this period of job loss, work hour reductions, and other financial setbacks, it is imperative that we focus on what is truly important and use our learnings to change or improve our financial habits.
There is an acronym titled, C.H.A.N.G.E., that was designed to promote changing our financial habits with a positive mindset. In keeping with this gift-giving time of year, let’s focus on the ‘C’ in C.H.A.N.G.E., which represents creativity. While putting together your holiday gifting list, get creative in the ways in which you might give. Giving is more than about money – so discover how you can bring joy to family, friends, and colleagues using your creativity or talents.
Are your talents best shown in the kitchen? If you bake treats such as cookies, cakes, pies, someone on your gift list who doesn’t enjoy or have the time to bake would welcome these tasty delights. Perhaps you could present gift certificates to prepare future home-cooked meals. Now, that’s a gift anyone would look forward to receiving!
How about your professional talents? You could gift your administrative skills such as typing, filing, letter creation to a small business owner. Or are you a sewing enthusiast? Face masks are essential in our current world so these make wonderful gifts for most anyone! Maybe you enjoy crafting or singing or reading? Share passions such as these via Zoom sessions with children or even those quarantined at home.
Holiday giving does not have to create a financial burden. Give the gift of you – your time, your talents, your creativity. It’s about caring and making the holiday joyous for the people who bring real meaning into your own life.
