Relationships Matter
“When we let others control us by the threat of disapproval and rejection, we give up far too much of ourselves and make it impossible for us to engage in authentic relationships.”
~George Robinson
Relationships play a huge part in your development. They help shape who you are and the path which you take in life. No one can get through life without forming some type of relationship, however, who you connect with can help make or break you in some areas in your life.
Life is like a beautiful rainbow with different colors working for one common goal. Although it is one, it takes various colors to make it a rainbow. That is how you can view relationships, making sure you are connected to the right people. Although you may come from different backgrounds and cultures, you need others to help you fulfill your purpose here on earth. Not one person can do it all alone. I know it may seem safer to stay in your bubble where you do not run the risk of being disappointed and rejected, but the truth is, you were created for relationship. Nothing can authentically be formed outside of relationship.
Relationships can be tricky, so in fulfilling purpose and connecting with others, make sure you do not lose yourself in the process. This happens all too often and at the end of the day you discover that an authentic relationship was never formed because they never got a chance to experience the true you. If you have to change who you are in order for people to value you, then you really should evaluate the relationship. Relationships, whether it be platonic or romantic, should enhance your life and not the opposite.
In closing, as we go through another year, let us be intentional and mindful of our relationships. Pray that God will divinely connect you with people He knows you will need in life. In order to embrace His best, you must be open to risk and the willingness to come outside of your comfort zone.
The right relationship is the gateway to fulfilling purpose.
