Harness Your Spring Fashionista!

Rack by rack, my eyes danced over vibrant colors that were reminiscent of a gumball machine. Typically indulging in retail is an enjoyable experience. My heart rate increases at the sight of anything spectacular and my words are very few, but this time - I was ‘underwhelmed.’
Each garment was lackluster and seemingly like the other. I desired something unique and charming to wear to an event, and rather all I came across were fabric clones. I thought of the scripture
“What has been will be again, what has been done will be done again; there is nothing new under the sun.”- Ecclesiastes 1:9
This statement could never hold more truth, especially in the world of fashion. Everything that we see on major runways and on local sidewalks has already been featured at some point in history. As women we are constantly growing and evolving, but we should also make sure that our outer appearance is reflective of that fact. In a world dominated by fashion trends you have to be able to transition into different seasons with what you already have in your closet.
Just as there are commandments and laws that we live our lives by, there are guidelines to fashion.
Here are the Fashionista Rules for the spring:
- Rule 1: Color - Think of a prism and all the colors it possesses, be courageous and explore options that work best against your complexion. The key to color is pairing a vibrant color with a neutral. This season the fashion color combos are Gray & Red, Tan & Orange, White & Yellow and Navy & Turquoise. (If your problem area is your lower body, you should opt for gray trousers and highlight your top half with a red blouse)
- Rule 2: The Transition - Exercise your right as a barginista and utilize what you already own! Try pairing your winter cardigan with a day dress for a simple but chic silhouette. You can also recycle your classic white office button down and pair it with tailored denim jeans or khakis. And incorporate color with beautiful spring accessories.Rule 3: Avoid Trends - The sad truth is trends aren’t for everyone. Don’t mess with a good thing; the key to style is KNOWING what works best for your body. Your style should still be relevant but also unique. One craze for spring is bows. If you’re younger you can play with a large chiffon (a sheer fabric of silk or rayon) bow on a blouse, and if you’re older you can incorporate the bow into your style by allowing it to be a dainty detail on your purse or heels.
- Rule 4: Commit to a Print - Don’t fear prints, there are other beautiful prints to explore outside of leopard. This season colorful prints are everywhere, if you’re feeling daring, pair a bold print blazer over a solid color shirt. (The shirt should match one of the understated colors in the blazer). If you want to play it safe opt for a minimal print in a pastel color.
- Rule 5: Confidence - The most important rule of all. God made us all beautiful and although fashion can’t reflect our hearts, we should be confident and allow our outside to be just as beautiful as what God placed inside.
Go forth and be gorgeous!

I absolutely love this. Everyone wants to be current with trends, and this gives us a good way of knowing how to incorporate what is best for ourselves with what is current in fashion. Great post and i’m looking forward to many more.
Dia you make my heart tingle. Of course I’ll be taking all of your tips to heart, you are my perfect fashion coordinator!
Chandia, I love what you say about knowing what works best for your body. I love a clean, tailored look and if I try to wear something that “I’m not” I am so uncomfortable and self-conscious. We are wonderfully & fearfully made and as women of faith, we must make the best of what we have and be women of excellence doing it. Great article!
