A New Start

It’s time for a new year. I don’t know about you but I think I’m ready for a fresh start. There is just something freeing about being able to say “Okay, last year was rough. Now let’s start over.”

I think as Christians we especially appreciate the concept of beginning again. Because really, on a much larger scale, isn’t that what Christ did for us? He gave us a new beginning, but more than that, He gave us new life, a life that is washed daily in His grace and mercy. And armed with His gifts we can resolve to make this new year productive for Him.

Isn’t that what our marriages need? Couples walking with Christ individually, learning and growing from Him and showering each other in the overflow of His love. I am convinced that the best thing I ever did for my marriage was to give my whole self over to the One who created me. Walking with Jesus, allowing Him to prune me and not worrying about my husband, eventually changed the way I viewed my marriage. It became a place for me to minister to my husband. It became a place for us to do battle together and not against each other. He gave us a fresh start and He wants to do the same for you.

This month as you make your resolutions for the coming year can I encourage you to make a few for your marriage? Will you let Jesus come in and change your heart toward your husband? Is there something that you’ve been holding on to, some hurt that is crippling you and your relationship? Will you give it over to Him, the One who loves you so much that He gave His life for you? Jesus is waiting. He wants to give you a new heart this year. Will you go to Him?

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold the new has come.” 2Corinthians 5:17 ESV

Is there a way we can pray for you? I would love for you to drop by and leave a comment letting us know how we can go to the Lord on behalf of you. Prayer works, friend, and He is faithful.

  3. Oh wow, sooooooo needed to hear that right now. Wise words, friend. Thank you so much for posting them. You can certainly pray that those truths grow in my heart this year where cold bitterness has taken root. May I be able to focus on my Jesus instead of my husband. Wow, what a difference that would make in this home. Thank you so much. Amen for new beginnings!

I had a situation in 2007…that I had to do this and it revolutionized our marriage….did my husband change? Not really, but God’s grace changed me. Quite remarkable actually!
